Spring in the mountains of Western North Carolina is a beautiful and exciting time. Once the winter chills go away, we can spend more time exploring the outdoors.
Part of that exploration often involves driving along scenic mountain roads. So while you take the time to spring clean your house and get the yard into shape, take a few hours to do a little spring cleaning and maintenance on your car.
Time for Spring Car Repair
Mountain roads can be quite treacherous in the winter season. While helpful for keeping us safe and on the move, salt and sand can do a significant number on your car's exterior and undercarriage if not removed promptly.
Here is our punch list of car care items to get yourself ready to dive into mountain adventures:
- Wash: Take the time to thoroughly get your car's entire exterior, tires, and undercarriage clear of salt and grime from the roads. Pay attention to the nocks and crannies where dirt can discreetly accumulate, and when finished, consider a good wax and polish.
- Check Your Tires: If you have winter tires, get them swapped out. Otherwise, check the pressure and tread for the coming rainy seasons.
- Replace Wipers: Just like you need tires in good condition for rain, your wipers need to be operating to clear your windshield. If your wipers have begun to crack or chip, replace them.
- Pop the Hood: It is time to check your oil, coolant, and washer fluid levels. Make sure they are filled and clean of any pollutants. Oh, and while you have the hood up, clear out any stray leaves or debris that managed to wiggle through the cracks.
These few simple things can help keep you safe, your car running efficiently, and reduce the risk of needing additional repair work. You can read here for more of our spring car cleaning tips.
Note Damage
You can handle getting your car cleaned up from the winter grime, but if you notice dents or dings during this spring cleaning and maintenance, take note and schedule an appointment to get that taken care of quickly. Even minor abrasions in your vehicle's exterior finish can give rust a foothold to spread from, leading to more significant damage down the road.
